February 11, 1847- Thomas was born
When Thomas was 16- He started his job of a tramp telegrapher
1867- Thomas invented a new model for the telegraph device as his first invention
1868- Thomas changed jobs to western Union telegraph office in Boston. Big telegraph community with lots of inventers One inventor was Alexander graham Bell, who would in 1876 invent the telephone. Being so inspired, he quit his job to become a full time inventor
When he was 22- Thomas got his first patent for an electric vote recorder
1869- Thomas moved to New York City
When Thomas was 23- Thomas was well known for being one of the best electrical inventors in the country
On Christmas Day, 1871- Thomas married Mary, an Employee at his company
1876- Thomas sold his Newark Business and this is when the telephone was invented
1877- Thomas improved the telephone to have a better sound and longer range. A version of this is still in most telephones used today.
1882- he invented the first light bulb and set up a generator
1884- Thomas’s wife Mary, died at the age of 29
1885- Thomas fell in love for another girl named Mina.
Soon after they were married- Thomas had three more children in addition to his two named dot and dash in relation to his telegraph job
October 17, 1888- Thomas Edison was telling his ideas for a device which would "do for the eye what the phonograph does for the ear" record and reproduce objects in motion. Edison called the invention a "Kinetoscope," using the Greek words "kineto" meaning "movement" and "scopos" meaning "to watch."
October 18, 1931- age at death: 84 years
